February 15, 2025For those who’re just joining us, I’ve dusted off a two-decade-old project idea and have actually started working on it. There’s a working prototype which I’m not going to link in this post, because this text will likely be around long after it’s been and gone, either shelved for another 20 years or thrown online in some kind of working form. Me, yesterday: spends an hour scratching my head, looking through settings for measurement units, trying to figure out why the objects I'm creating are too large when I enter in what I'm measuring from an item in front of me, then giving up and just eyeballing it.

Me, today: finally realises that my digital calipers are "zeroed" at 5mm.

Next iteration of a Pi1541 case is done, it's really looking the part. I wish I had a less yellowed Commodore 64 to compare it to, but the colour of this filament is really good for something sitting next to the older gear.

Remains to be seen if I get really ambitious and make a whole different front panel to mount a rotary encoder for input instead.

A small printed case with buttons and a screen next to a Commodore 64 showing an aesthetic similarity and colour. There's part of a grey version of the same case visible in the foreground. Rear view of a small case with one USB and two DIN sockets, on top of a Commodore 64

Me: I wish I had a small treat for dessert.

Past Mike: I picked up a slice of baklava from that nice shop earlier, it's in the kitchen.
